1) [dʒɔn], Augustus Edwin, britischer Maler und Zeichner, * Tenby (County Dyfed) 4. 1. 1878, ✝ Fordingbridge (County Hampshire) 31. 10. 1961, Bruder von 4); Vertreter des englischen Nachimpressionismus, beeinflusst von P. Puvis de Chavannes. Den Schwerpunkt seiner frühen Werke bilden Szenen aus dem Zigeunerleben; schuf später neben figurenreichen Kompositionen Stillleben, Akte sowie hervorragende Porträts.

 2) [dʒɔn], Sir (seit 1998) Elton, eigentlich Reginald Kenneth Dwight [dwaɪt], britischer Rockmusiker (Sänger, Pianist, Komponist), * Pinner (heute zu London) 25. 3. 1947; arbeitete mit dem Texter Bernie Taupin (1968) zusammen und startete 1970 eine Blitzkarriere zum Superstar der Rockmusik (LPs: »Elton John«, »Tumbleweed connection«), der mit seinen perfekt arrangierten Songs und exzentrischen Bühnenshows in grotesker Kostümierung in seiner Heimat und auf weltweiten Tourneen große Erfolge feierte. Nach schweren persönlichen Krisen zog er sich 1990 für zwei Jahre ins Privatleben zurück. 1993 ging er erneut auf Welttournee. Für den Walt-Disney-Film »Der König der Löwen« (1994) schrieb er u. a. den Song »Can you feel the love tonight«. Nach dem Tod von Diana, Princess of Wales (1997) veröffentlichte er sein - einst mit anderem Text an Marilyn Monroe gerichtetes - »Candle in the wind«, eine der meistverkauften Singles überhaupt.

 4) [dʒɔn], Gwen, eigentlich Gwendolyn Mary John, britische Malerin, * Haverfordwest (bei Pembroke) 22. 7. 1876, ✝ Dieppe 13. 9. 1939, Schwester von 1); lebte ab 1903 in Frankreich, war befreundet mit A. Rodin und R. M. Rilke. Sie malte v. a. nachimpressionistische Porträts und Interieurs.

 5) [jɔn], Jiří, tschechischer Maler und Grafiker, * Třešt' (Südmährisches Gebiet) 6. 11. 1923, ✝ Prag 26. 6. 1972; schuf lyrisch-abstrakte Bilder mit flächenhaftem Aufbau, deren Symbolik sich v. a. auf Natur und städtische Umwelt bezieht.
